Motorised window coverings are an easy upsell and a genuine solution in specific situations. The question is whether your windows are in that category.
Where it genuinely helps
Tall windows, windows above stairs, behind furniture, or in a double-height space — anywhere reaching the blind is awkward enough that it does not get operated.
And west-facing glass in Middle Tennessee, where the shading needs closing in the afternoon whether anyone is home or not.
Battery or wired
Battery motors need no wiring and are the practical retrofit choice, with recharging every several months to a year depending on use.
Wired is more reliable long term and is worth doing in new construction or a renovation with walls open.

Automation that earns its place
A timer or sun sensor closing west shades in the afternoon reduces cooling load without anyone remembering. That is the automation with a measurable benefit here.
Everything else is convenience, which is legitimate but should be priced as such.
Longevity questions
Ask what happens if the manufacturer’s app or cloud service is discontinued, and whether the blinds still operate from a physical remote or wall switch.
Window coverings last decades and consumer electronics ecosystems do not, so local control without a cloud dependency matters.
